Wrapping Up This Crazy October: Taste of the Arts and More

Ugh! It's almost here- the end of October. Praise Jesus I really wondered if I would survive. I memorized my lines for Spirits in October (barely), went to more events than I can recall, and just finished Taste of the Arts. WOW. First- thank you to everyone who supported all of the charitable events I was a part of, these things cannot take place without you. Second, thank you to David- who was a patient date for most of my events, he was gracious enough to let me drag him around to most everything.

So, how was Taste of the Arts? It was amazing. I'm not sure how much we raised, I'll find out later, but the food was phenominal. I hate I didn't get to try everyone's food though- I'm really hating I missed Riverside Cemetary's chili, especially after working with them so much for Spirits in October. That wrapped up this weekend also, and I will get back to that later.

So anyways. It was a tremendous night. I saw a TON of people: Mr. and Mrs. Beeland, of course (and a big thumbs up to her for taking on the task for Interim Director of the Macon Arts Alliance); Chanda and Kevin Akles; Stephanie Robinson; Colin Holder; Canaan Marshall; Betsy Campbell and Gary Ballard; Molly Muse; David Quakenbush and Stephen Fulbright; Tori and Jerry Jennings- and so so many more. There's no WAY I can remember everyone and I will add yall as I remember. We went out to dinner at Tic Toc afterwards, which was equally amazing. I'm really looking forward to Cesare's new place opening up. He was kind enough to stay open for all of us piling in late.

The next Sunday was also the last night of Spirits in October. It was my absolute honor to play Mary Evans Glass, one of the founders of my sorority: Alpha Delta Pi. Thank you so much to all of you who came out to see us- being able to play this role has allowed me a deeper appreciation for my sorority. For all of you ADPi ladies, I truly feel our motto even more: " We Live For Each Other".

Now, I can't believe I forgot to mention last time that this weekend we also have Historic Macon's flea market. (https://www.facebook.com/historicmacon?fref=ts) So, my schedule is somewhat amended tomorrow. Flea Market, Arts on Riverdale, Junior League's Rock n Read, Spirits in October.

Just another busy weekend for me!

Playing the Part: Spirits in October; Jazz and Arts on Riverdale; Junior League's Rock n Read; and Taste of the Arts

Halfway through my crazy month. I got my lines down for Spirits in October- FINALLY. I mean I really think Suzanne Doonan was going to strangle me, cause this time last week... it was iffy. In fact I almost asked if I could keep notecards. BUT- thanks to Weldon, one of my fellow Mary Evans Glass actors, I got it down. And thank you to David to listening to my lines over and over again... and my sweet lil babies for also listening over and over again. (A tip: if you want to memorize lines, fighting talking over and 2 and 3 year old will help.)

So, since my lines are down- yall please come and see me since I am no longer concerned with embarrassing myself. Sound good? Great!

Also this weekend is the Jazz and Arts on Riverdale event. It's an easy walk from my house so I will for sure be there, and frankly Georgia plays Kentucky and I'm just not thrilled at all with how the last game went. So I am not really interested in the other games anymore- for the moment. And the game is at 7- so no excuses there. You can always discover something new here, whether it is a piece of jewelry or art. I know for sure that Karli Campbell of Knot + Bow Designs will be there.

And another family friendly event this weekend is Junior League of Macon's Rock n Read Fest. This is the FIRST year for this event and it's from 4 til 7 with Sterling Waite opening for the SunDollars. Children's activities start at 4 with bouncy houses, face painters, story tellers and SO much more!

So here's my suggestion: start at Arts on Riverdale (it's from 12 til 7), then go to Rock n Read, THEN head to Spirits in October. That's my schedule! DVR the games just in case Georgia decides to show up to play, and run your errands in the morning. That's on Saturday- now on Friday also be sure to attend the Broadway Night at St.Paul's Episcopal Church along with Spirits in October. There will be some surprise special guests from the Macon art's community too!

Now- next weekend. Not only is there Spirits in October but it's also Taste of the Arts. If yall could just click that hyperlink and buy some tickets that would REALLY help me out tons- I'm on the committee and it would be nice if I could help sell a large number of tickets. ;) I have figured out my dress, I just need to find some shoes and book my stylist to do my hair and makeup. I'll fill yall in on THOSE details on my Make It Work Molly blog. It's really going to be an amazing event, my dear friends Tori and Collin are in charge and any party they are a party of is super fabulous- but yall know that from past blog posts.

Ok. I'm exhausted... I'm looking forward to October being done. But I'm sure November and December will bring event more fun stuff with events like Festival of Trees! Til next time yall...

Market Day Market Day- Today is Market Day! Actually, Market WEEK

Yay! Market Day! Today is the day to get down to the Mulberry Street Market- but if you miss it, and even if you don't- you get a double dose of market days this week cause Saturday is Wesleyan Market day. Personally, I love going to these markets. I have my certain people I love to see at each- at Mulberry Market it's Abby Owens and her bread, at Wesleyan Market it's Jonah's on Johnston for their pizza... and also their bread. ( I can hear my friend Collin screaming "Carb-i-cide" BUT I DON'T CARE- I've been running lately). Last week at Mulberry Market, I learned how to cook kale... but I have to be honest, I didn't have the time. (Surprised? Yeah right.) I'm not sure if they are still good so I think I'll just go ahead and buy some more. Since this is my weekend with my babies I'll be sure to make some for them, luckily my lil ones love some leafy greens.

Now- I do need to do some different self promotion. I need some help! Have you registered for DealChicken? Go here: https://www.facebook.com/DealChickenMacon/app_143103275748075?ref=ts or click on the image to the right. And... aside from winning my undying love you will also be entered to win a Kindle Fire. So why not?

Also coming up, the Mercer University Opera has free performances of "The Toy Shop", see the following below from their press release:

Mercer University Opera presents three free performances of the children’s opera “The Toy Shop,” by Seymour Barab. The performances will take place at Neva Langley Fickling Hall of McCorkle Music Building on Mercer University’s campus on Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 18 – 20, at 6 p.m. The opera tells the story of a Toymaker’s two precious creations, two dolls named Paul and Pauline, and an evil magician who tries to steal them away. Bring your little ones to see this charming one-act tale written just for them – and for the child in all of us. Children ages 5 and older are welcome to attend. Although each concert is free, seating is limited, so audience members are encouraged to arrive early. Formore information call (478) 301-5751 or visit Mercer.edu/Music.

Again- you can't say there's nothing to do in Macon! Be sure to also sign the "i love macon" pledge- we'd love to hear about something new you love about Macon. You can also feel free to email me, makeitworkmolly@gmail.com with what you have going on around town.

Til next time yall...

UPDATE: What I bought at the market today- some kale, green beans, Abby Owens' apple bread (btw- if she hadn't held it for me it would be all gone... as of 5:45 pm), and a ridiculous pumpkin/cream cheese concoction

My Busy Month of October- And It's Just Starting

I gotta be honest yall- I had to force myself to write tonight. It's 9 pm and I am exhausted. Really wanting to climb in to bed but I have been lazy with my writing lately so- here I go.

Last weekend was freakin bananas for me, and I slept through one of the main things I had to do: Junior League's Bookin It 5K. Yeah my smart behind signed up for the 5:45 am shift. It helps if you set your iPhone alarm for "weekend" rather than "weekday". I woke up at 7 am. But honestly, I probably needed the sleep. This past week, and tonight, consisted of practices for Spirits in October as well. Guess who isn't off book yet? Me. Gettin there though. If you haven't bought tickets yet go here:

http://www.riversidecemeteryconservancy.org/event-calendar/icalrepeat.detail/2012/10/20/59/-/NWRkNmIwNzU5NTNmZTk3ZWQ4YjZhZjFhY2VhYzk3YjE=

And from my understanding- they sell out fast so you might wanna jump on it. I will be playing one of my sororities founders: Mary Evans Glass, of Alpha Delta Pi. (A-D-Pi A-D-Pi who am I? ADPI!)

Also last week and last night, meetings for Macon Art Alliance's Taste of the Arts. So look- I'd really like to out do my fellow committee members in ticket sales so could you do me a favor and go here to buy them? Thanks so much!!!

Sorry guys I know I am really dipping in your wallets but seriously- if you have EVER uttered the words "there's nothing to do in Macon" well guess what- I am calling you out on it now. "Doing something" costs money so why not contribute to some great causes while you are at it?

So wait, what else did I do this past weekend? OH yes I remember- two big things. For one, I made it to Crossroads Writers Conference. This is a HUGE victory for me and I only made it to three events. I wish I had gone to the whole damn thing. Next year- next year I will. I said it this year but really next year. Even in just one afternoon I made some invaluable connections (shout out to Carrie Howland and Anya Silver) and discovered some of my acquaintances were writers in disguise.

After that Saturday, I watched the Dawgs fail miserably and headed to friend Jerry's birthday party- always a good time with our group.

Then on Sunday- photo shoot day!! #TheMuseProject is what we are calling it- we shot with Floco Torres in downtown Macon. Why are we calling it The Muse Project? Well, I am playing a character who is a musicians muse. The goal is to shoot with more musicians (and I am dying to shoot in The Grand as well). Stayed tuned to see more of how the story develops!

Oh! Now as for this week- well I had Junior League tonight, and things will be pretty quiet til this weekend when it's time for the Macon Symphony. And of course with that comes another outfit debate- but I will tackle that later on my Make It Work Molly blog.

Well peeps- I gotta go. I really need to try and sleep some tonight. Til next time folks...

UPDATE: Obviously- I needed sleep very badly cause I FORGOT to include what I did Friday night- I had my first art show! It's still up at Roasted if you want to check it out. I also went to the Macon Art Alliance's show and my friend Heathery's show at the Contemporary Arts Exchange. Well, actually it's Heatherly and her hubby's show together. I got some really cool ideas from her about how to mix my poetry with my paintings- I don't have the courage to venture in to it just yet but maybe someday. Til then I will just admire her work. :) I also got to meet Eric O'Dell while there and look at his work. The cool thing about the Contemporary Arts Exchange is that they have these rooms with all different artists- it's really their studios. So you can get a neat glimpse inside of how each artist works.

It's Monday: And This Week Wears Me Out Already

Well. For some reason my social calendar isn't giving me a break. As I predicted, October is going to be crazy. I literally have something every weekend.

But September didn't give me much of a break either. This past weekend, I just had to make an appearance at Signature Salon's event to benefit Jay's HOPE. Of course, I couldn't stay as long as I wanted nor go as early as I wanted- you know, being a mommy comes first and I wanted to get the little ones fed, bathed, and tucked in bed first. (Luckily I have great babysitters ie: grandparents.)

Jay's HOPE is one of my favorite local charities. I get my hair styled by Nichole of Signature Salon. And really, I know that any event that Susannah Maddux is a part of will be fantastic. So yeah. This weekend was going to be a big win no matter what! This one was no exception.

Upon walking in we ran in to Rachel Bunn, Kristi Peake, and Janea Phillips- all of Signature Salon. I also saw Ashley Slocumb (by the way-  I still cannot get over her lovely engagement ring), John David and Katie Miller, Nicole Albertson, and Tiffany and Shawn Cannon. (By the way- Tiffany is one of my favorite Junior League ladies, she always makes me laugh!) And of course it was lovely to see Meredith and Nick Malloy.

I have to say, I am not the biggest fan of country music but I did enjoy Cole Swindell's music- even his original music.

Now, things pick right on back up. Tonight is another student led concert at Mercer's Townsend School of Music. Tomorrow- I think is rehearsal for Spirits in October (Jesus help me memorize these lines! Thursday is something I am VERY excited about: the first Idea House by Historic Macon. If you have not purchased tickets yet- then go HERE: https://historicmacon.wufoo.com/forms/z7p6p1/. This is going to be a fun and fabulous event- along with practical! I can't wait to see these ideas for smaller houses.

If you are a writer in town, this weekend also presents the annual Crossroads Writers Conference. I will attend the Saturday afternoon events, after taking care of my super early morning shift for Junior League's Bookin' It 5K & Fun Run. Oh and did I mention Friday? That's First Friday and I have to make it to Heatherly and Eric Wakefield's show The Honeymoons Over?!?, and also there's the show at The Grand Opera House... and then the fundraiser for Macon Symphony Saturday night and also my friend Jerry's birthday AND I have a photo shoot Sunday afternoon. Not to even BEGIN to mention that I am trying to see a house I am interested in this weekend. AHHHHH. Can I please clone myself yet?! And it's the pumpkin patch opening weekend this weekend.

It's Monday. I'm tired already.
